What material is the jewellery made from?
Our piercing jewellery is made from surgical steel.
How should I clean my new piercing?
Using saline solution. This can be bought sterile or made by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt with a mug of hot water, letting the salt dissolve and leaving it to cool until it’s no longer hot enough to burn you, but still quite warm. Ideally, you want to soak you piercing for about 5 minutes, twice a day for the amount of time you’ve been told to for your piercing. If you cannot soak your piercing (common with ear piercings), use a cotton bud dipped in saline solution to clean off any crusties.
Oral piercings should be cleaned with an alcohol free antibacterial mouthwash twice a day and after eating and smoking for the first two weeks.
What should I do if I think I have an infection?
Often what people think is an infection is just a perfectly normal part of the healing process. Pop in or email us a picture of your piercing on info[@]xoticatattoo[dot]com and we’ll advise you on whether on not your piercing is infected and what you can do to solve the issue – infection or otherwise. Do not remove your jewellery – the piercing acts as a drain for the infection. Removing your jewellery will only leave the infection trapped inside your skin.
My bar is becoming embedded/too short. What should I do?
Pop in and we’ll happily size you up for a new bar.
When can I change my jewellery and what materials are safe to wear in healed piercings?
You need to wait at least 6 weeks before changing your jewellery, but some piercings/people can take longer to fully heal than others. Try not to change the jewellery too much during the first 2-3 months (unless necessary) to ensure the quickest healing process. We suggest you stick to surgical steel, titanium, PTFE and niobium.
Is everything you use to pierce sterilised and only used on me?
All our needles are pre-sterilised and one use needles. Our tools are used multiple times, but are thoroughly sterilised between each use in our autoclave. All jewellery is single use only.
Do you use a needle or a gun?
We use a needle for all piercings and a biopsy punch for microdermals

What ID is accepted?
ID must be photographic and have your date of birth visible. Bank cards, access passes and other cards that do not contain both of these things will not be accepted. Photos of ID are not accepted, you must have it with you.
Will it hurt?
You are having a needle put through you so it will hurt a bit. Everyone’s pain tolerance and experiences are different so we cannot tell you how much it will hurt you as we do not know you or your pain threshold.
Can I bring my friend in with me?
Depending on the piercing you may have up to one observer
Why is the jewellery so long/big?
Remember as pretty as it is, your new piercing is a wound. It will swell after the piercing is performed and as it heals. The extra space on your bar is there to accommodate such swelling when it occurs.
Should I twist the jewellery when cleaning?
No. There is really no need and you’re more likely to agitate your piercing.
I’m not happy with the placement of my piercing
Your piercer will have marked your piercing placement and had you approve it before going ahead with the procedure. You will have also been shown your new piercing when it had been done. Any issues need to be raised before exiting the store.
Once you have exited the store you are responsible for your piercing. There is no way for us to know how accurately you followed our aftercare instructions or how much you fiddled with your new piercing, and therefore cannot be held responsible if it becomes infected, a ball falls off or you take it out and it closes up. Please take care of your piercings once you have left the store!
