Tattoo Aftercare and FAQ's

Tattoo Aftercare

Step 1: Remove the protective covering (Dermalize film) after 2
days, under the shower.

Step 2: Wash the tattoo gently with clean hands using warm soapy
water.

Step 3: With a dabbing motion, pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel
or kitchen roll

Step 4: Leave tattoo to dry naturally for 30 minutes while avoiding
contact with any clothing or fabrics.

Step 5: Apply the recommended Dermalize or Whitfield Balm gently to
the tattoo in a similar fashion to a hand or facial moisturiser,
taking particular care to make sure it is completely absorbed.

Step 6: Step 5 should be repeated twice daily for a period of 3
weeks, once after you have showered and once 12 hours later, no
more, no less.

What to avoid while your tattoo is healing:

- Avoid soaking the tattoo in hot water for lengthy periods of time

- Avoid the sun, sun beds, saunas, steam rooms & jacuzzis

- Be selective about clothing you wear as it may get stained
permanently. This includes any bedding or night clothes. Loose,
comfortable clothes are highly recommended.

* Do not pick, scratch or rub the tattoo in any way. You should
expect light scabbing and itching during the healing process.

Tattoo FAQ's

"When should I take off the Dermalise film?"
Remove the Dermalise film two days after getting your tattoo.

"How should I take care of my tattoo?"
Remove the protective covering (Dermalize film) after 2 days, under the shower. Then wash the tattoo gently with clean hands using warm soapy water. Do not pick, scratch or rub the tattoo in any way.

"Can I still go to the gym?"
You shouldn’t go to the gym on the day you get your tattoo, but after that is fine. If possible, avoid working on the specific area of your tattoo too soon (e.g. if you’ve had part of your sleeve done, it might be better to focus on other parts of the body in the few days immediately after getting your tattoo). After working out, give your tattoo a wash to remove any sweat, gently pat it dry and apply cocoa butter to keep it moisturised.

"My new tattoo is really itchy. Is it infected?"
It’s unlikely. Tattoo itching is a very normal part of the healing process, especially if scabs have formed. Just remember to keep up with the aftercare routine to make sure your tattoo is sufficiently moisturised. Do not itch your tattoo or peel off any scabs prematurely. If the itching is unbearable, slap it don’t scratch it!

"Can I bath/swim?"
Avoid soaking your new tattoo for two weeks. You may shower, but avoid leaving your new tattoo under the water for long. Soaking your tattoo will soften the scabs, making them easier to come off prematurely and take some of the ink with them.

"Can I use a tanning bed?"
Avoid using a tanning bed and going out in the sun to tan while your tattoo is healing. After it’s healed, you can tan, but we advise that you wear sun cream.

"My tattoo has finished healing but looks faded, what can I do?"
Tattoos can have a slightly cloudy/shiny layer of skin over them during the last stage of the healing process, so do make sure that the tattoo you’re looking at is FULLY healed. If it is, know that tattoos can look up to 40% lighter when healed. Here at Xotica we offer free touch ups for our customers. Get in touch and we’ll sort out a booking.
